So, the swimming season ended and a new one is about to begin. There have been lots of changes this season to the club, some highs, some lows…but mostly highs! We saw some great swims this season from our members, a positive commitment to the club and their own personal ongoing development, we can be very proud of all of them.
Last month the club celebrated the achievements of all the swimmers who took part in the Junior Club Champs and the Long Distance Champs on the 9th July, which took place at the club’s home pool at the Arena in Bognor Regis.
Summer swimming commences tonight and runs for three weeks through August.
There will be a flat rate charge of £6.50 per swimmer per week payable to a committee member on poolside. The more swims you have the better value it is!
The final week of August there will be a break for all before normal squad swimming resumes on September 1st.
Please ensure you have paid at the beginning of each week if you wish your child to be able to swim.
The dates and times for our summer swimming sessions are for all squads and will be led by head coach, Sue Eason.
Aug 2nd, 3rd, 4th – 6.00 to 7.30
Aug 9th, 10th, 11th – 6.00 to 7.30
Aug 16th, 17th, 18th – 6.00 to 7.30
What a fabulous days swimming and what a fantastic turn out. It was great to see so many clubs today at our VK Meet, and very proud we are of all the great swims that took place today.
We would like to thank all the swimmers, judges, officials and volunteers who worked so hard to make the day a success. Also, many thanks to all the parents who came to support their children.
In total there were there over 300 swimmers from 18 clubs, with 1262 individual swims! 23 event records were broken. Shiverers Swimming Club of Hove took 12 of these. We would also like to congratulate Shiverers who have retained the club trophy, well done!
A great set of results from all of our swimmers. Every swimmer swam at least one new personal best (PB) time (which is classed as your best time in the last year).
32 out of 47 swims = 68% of swims were PBs, compared with the overall meet PB rate of just 57%. The 3 DQs would have been PBs too and would have brought that up to 74%.
Congratulations to Tom who achieved his second Automatic Regional Qualifying Time in his 100m breaststroke, winning Gold in a new Event Best Time of 1:24.38. Tom also won Gold in his other 3 events – 200 IM, 50 free and 50 fly.
Alys won Gold in her 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley, whilst Imogen won Gold in the 200m backstroke.
Silver medals were won by Amber in both the 100m and 200m butterfly, and by William in the 50m breaststroke.
Bronze medals were won by Daisy in the 50m breaststroke and by Alys in the 200m backstroke.
Well done everyone!
A huge thank you to Tina who helped with the swimmers all day poolside; to Darren Cowell who was a time keeper in sessions 2 and 3; and to Mark Webb and Martin Stone who refereed all day!
