Congratulations to all our swimmers who competed in the Littlehampton Splash into 2017 Open Meet on Sunday 8th January at the Arun Leisure Centre in Bognor.
Despite some tough competition, our swimmers did a fantastic job. Every single swimmer achieving a Personal Best. This was a great result, as for some of our younger swimmers it was their very first Gala. They should all be enormously proud of themselves.
So, the swimming season ended and a new one is about to begin. There have been lots of changes this season to the club, some highs, some lows…but mostly highs! We saw some great swims this season from our members, a positive commitment to the club and their own personal ongoing development, we can be very proud of all of them.
A great set of results from all of our swimmers. Every swimmer swam at least one new personal best (PB) time (which is classed as your best time in the last year).
32 out of 47 swims = 68% of swims were PBs, compared with the overall meet PB rate of just 57%. The 3 DQs would have been PBs too and would have brought that up to 74%.
Congratulations to Tom who achieved his second Automatic Regional Qualifying Time in his 100m breaststroke, winning Gold in a new Event Best Time of 1:24.38. Tom also won Gold in his other 3 events – 200 IM, 50 free and 50 fly.
Alys won Gold in her 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and 200m individual medley, whilst Imogen won Gold in the 200m backstroke.
Silver medals were won by Amber in both the 100m and 200m butterfly, and by William in the 50m breaststroke.
Bronze medals were won by Daisy in the 50m breaststroke and by Alys in the 200m backstroke.
Well done everyone!
A huge thank you to Tina who helped with the swimmers all day poolside; to Darren Cowell who was a time keeper in sessions 2 and 3; and to Mark Webb and Martin Stone who refereed all day!
Tom Hogg won Gold in the 200m backstroke event at the Sussex County Championships! He also won Silver in the 200m IM, Bronze in the 100m freestyle and a rosette in the 50m freestyle. All four were base Regional Qualifying times.
Also in action this weekend were Abbie Turner and Grace Womersley, both swimming PBs and Abby winning a rosette in the 400m freestyle. Great work guys!
Abbie, Alys, Amber, Daisy and Grace W all competed for BRSC in the Girls Junior Championship at the Sussex County ASA Relay Championships in Horsham today. Finishing 19th in the freestyle 4 x 50 relay and 22nd in the medley 4 x 50 relay, they improved their seeding by two in both races.
Daisy swam Pbs in both lead legs giving the girls a fab start. Great team work girls! The mum’s were in action too with Tina, Arabella and Liz all helping poolside with heat marshalling.
Thank you ladies!
Fifteen Bognor swimmers competed in the Littlehampton Splash Open Meet right after the New Year with many great results. But most importantly Tom also gained the accolade of consistently performing the best streamlining off every start and turn. Whilst Grace Womersley demonstrated the most efficient freestyle kick. It is so important to put those skills you have practiced in training into your races, I do promise it will pay dividends and you will get faster!
A few of our swimmers have been busy attending open meets in order to gain their licensed county times. Tom Hogg, Amber Mac-rae and Grace Womer-sley attended the PeterBull Meet at Waterlooville on 21st November. They were joined by Katie White, representing Millfield. All swam good personal best times (PBs), with Tom and Amber both winning medals. Tom gained two Gold and two Silver medals, whilst Amber gained Silver in the 200m butterfly. Katie swam for time only, posting the fastest 200 free time in her age group. Tom swam a 12 second PB in his 200 breast to easily achieve his county time. Amber swam a 19 second PB in her 200 free and Grace a 9 second PB in her 100 breast. Fantastic!
The following weekend saw Tom, Amber and Abbie Turner at Portsmouth. Tom swam two good PBs, both county times, winning with gold in the 200 back and silver in the 400 free. Amber swam a good PB in her 100 fly and edging closer to her county time. Abbie swam a superb PB to gain her 400 IM county time, winning Silver.
Great work guys!
Well done to the five swimmers who represented BRSC in the Sussex County ASA Winter Competition. Tom Hogg, Katie White, Amber Macrae, Alys Turner and Abbie Turner all qualified for this top county short course competition.

In the Age Group overall points competition, Tom Hogg had a very successful first county competition finishing 2nd in the 12 year boys; whilst Katie White came 6th in the 10 year girls, despite only swimming in the first weekend. So a fantastic performance all round, WELL DONE to all five swimmers!
