Head Coach Update

Bognor Regis Swimming Club has been running for over 50 years, and the success of the club is down to its members.

We are a competitive club, and our training is geared around this.  We work on a 16-week programme, stroke technique, turns, starts and finishes.

As the swimmer’s progress and start to gain stamina and speed with the correct technique they move up the squads.  Minnows being our start out squad, Seahorses, Dolphins, Barracudas and Marlins.

Open Meets and local galas we attend regularly, here the swimmers often achieve personal best times and win medals or ribbons.  We also have inter club competition where the swimmers compete against each other in their age groups.

Our Vanessa Knight Memorial Open Meet, just before the May bank holiday is our club Open Meet where other clubs come to compete against other club swimmers for medals. This Open Meet is unique as it is a Licensed A, B, C grade meet.  This gives the opportunity for swimmers to achieve personal bests and win medals.

Our coaches are qualified or working towards their qualification.  Everyone on poolside has a DBS check, and must regularly attend child protection seminars.

Hello from your new Head Coach…

First, I’d like to introduce myself.

As some of you know, I have been at Littlehampton Swimming Club since 1999, the last six years as their Head Coach. I stood down recently so I could go back to nursing, however I very soon realised that this was no longer for me, having been out for over 15 years, and found I really missed coaching swimming. I have been looking for another coaching role and was delighted when I heard that Bognor was looking for a coach, so here I am!

I am an ASA Level 3 Coach and a Level 2 teacher. I have been involved in both county and regional training and have taken several swimmers to national level. This year I had two swimmers at the British Championships and five at the ASA Nationals. One made two finals at the British Championships, four made finals at the ASA Nationals and one achieved a Gold Medal in the 200m breaststroke. Two of these swimmers are on the Regional Beacon Programme at Portsmouth and one young S6 swimmer is on the British Para-Swimming Talent Programme.
